Katy Perry is said to be "devastated" over the death of her ex-boyfriend, Sons Of Anarchy star Johnny Lewis.

The actor was found dead on a driveway after he suffered a fall. He is the lead suspect in the murder of his elderly landlady.

Perry and Lewis dated for 18 months until early 2007. It is thought that much of her material is inspired by her former partner.

Speaking to US Magazine, a source close to Perry said: "She is devastated. She had to separate from him to get ahead and focus on her career. He was in trouble then and she couldn't help him. A lot of her songs were partially inspired by him. "I know The One That Got Away and Circle The Drain are partly about him, as well as Travis McCoy. But she was young and it was a time in her life she cherishes."

Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter released a personal message following the death of his former star, who played Kip 'Half-Sack' Epps in the drama.

He wrote on his official website: "Not sure if folks know this yet, but Johnny Lewis (Half-Sack) died last night. It was a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way. "I wish I could say that I was shocked by the events last night, but I was not. I am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path." He concluded: "Yes, it's [a] day of mourning, but it's also a day of awareness and gratitude. TV star Johnny Lewis, who used to date Katy Perry, has been found dead.

The actor, who starred in shows The O.C. and Sons Of Anarchy, allegedly murdered an 81-year-old woman before throwing himself from a roof.

Neighbours reported hearing a woman screaming and three men (including Lewis, who was armed with a block of wood) fighting outside the property, before he was found dead in a driveway at around 10.40am.

The home in Los Feliz belonged to the elderly woman, Katherine Chabot Davis. Officers found her body inside the property.

A neighbour and a handyman were badly beaten in the fight outside.

According to US Gossip site TMZ, Lewis then climbed onto the roof of the property. It is unclear whether he jumped or fell to his death.

LAPD Commander Andrew Smith told KABC reporters: "He appeared to have died from some type of fall, either from the stairway, or from the balcony, or from one of the roofs.

"The best we're piecing together now is that it appears that some type of altercation occurred inside of the house resulting in the death of the woman.

"Then this individual ran outside, had an altercation with a couple of neighbors, ran back into the house and by the time we got here, he had fallen or had somehow died on the driveway."

At the moment, the cause of death of the woman has not yet been released. However, Smith implied that she had been killed by a blunt force trauma to the head.

One neighbour, Greg Sarian, added that the woman was a landlord, and had rented out the rooms of the property to boarders.

Lewis is the only suspect in the woman's murder, and police are not looking for other possible suspects.

The actor dated Katy Perry back in 2006, and attended various events with the pop star. He also starred alongside Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in The Runaways in 2010.
