Vera Cowley Obituary, Decherd, Vera Cowley has died
Vera Cowley Obituary, Death – At her home on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Vera Ruth Cowley, who was 94 years old and a resident of Decherd, died away. On June 27, 1929, she was born in Grundy County to the late James Sartain and Alma Mae (Meeks) Sartain. Both of her parents have now passed away. There were two factories where Vera worked as a seamstress: the Cowan Hat Factory and the Lanier Coat Factory.
Her hobbies included gardening and helping out on the family farm, in addition to sewing, which she did in addition to her job. The length of time that Vera spent away from home was seldom particularly lengthy. Her favorite thing to do at Sewanee was to go on rides and hikes around the trails, which allowed her to take in the breathtaking scenery. The resoluteness and perseverance with which she pursued her goals will remain in her memory forever.
The Oak Grove Church of Christ was Vera’s place of worship and membership. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank Sartain, who served his nation during World War II and died in Normandy; her husband Gene Cowley; her son Douglas Goodman; and her granddaughter Shannon Goodman. Her parents were also among those who followed in her footsteps.
There are ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren that Vera leaves behind. Her sons, Randell (Nina) Goodman and Rex (Connie) Cowley, as well as her grandchildren, Tina (Robert) Goodman Gottesman, Tammy (Tom) Goodman, Stephanie Mitchell, Taylor (Eli) Osgood, Katherine Hartman, and James (Brianna) Crick, are all among those who survive her. At one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, February 23, 2024, there will be a service performed at the graveside at the Mt. Garner Cemetery. Located at 300 First Avenue Northwest, Winchester, Tennessee 37398, Moore-Cortner Funeral Home can be reached at (931) 967-2222.
